Social Protection Resource Center is celebrating “International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2021” to promote the rights of differently-abled persons and to raise awareness for their well-being in every sphere of life including political, social, economic, and cultural life. Persons with disabilities (PWDs) are already facing the challenges of affordability or accessibility of required education and health care. COVID-19 has exacerbated the problems of the PWDs. Closure of educational institutions has aggravated challenges for PWDs individually and at the institutional level due to limitations and accessibility.
A robust social protection system can build resilience and provide support in uncertain conditions like pandemics through better anticipation, adaptation, and absorption. Shock responsive social protection against shocks may be the solution as it keeps the ability to absorb the shock, and it keeps disaster risk considerations incorporated in its design so that it can respond flexibly in times of crisis.
